Your customers say ‘notebook.’ Your catalog says ‘laptop.’ Connect the two.

The names in the catalog do not always match the words of your customers. The search engine’s synonyms allow you to relate expressions relevant to your store, without changing each product page or forcing the visitor to guess how you classified the product. The key is to connect equivalent terms, not to mix different needs.

Check the expressions that your buyers in Mexico use, without assuming that all customers call a product the same. Keep only relevant equivalences for your catalog.

Equivalences that arise from real searches.

Start with the terms that appear in queries and the way your team serves customers. "Laptop", "notebook" and "notebook" can describe the same product family; "laptop" and "charger" are not equivalent.

In the panel you can register a main word and its equivalents. Before saving a group, check that the expressions refer to the same concept within your catalog and not to a different accessory or category.

  • Use the vocabulary of your clients.
  • Separate products and accessories.
  • Keep groups understandable.
A case to understand

From an empty query to a useful term

A visitor writes “laptop” and the listings use “laptop.” First confirm that indexed laptops exist. Then configure the relationship and repeat both queries. If chargers or items from another category appear, check the group. The improvement should be verified on the actual selection, not assumed because the synonym has been saved.

Test the result, not just the saved word.

An equivalence can extend the recovery and also introduce results that you did not expect. Run searches using the group terms and see which products appear. Especially check models, brands and names that have multiple meanings.

Return to queries with no results to see if the adjustment addressed the observed issue. If the item does not exist or is not indexed, adding more words will not resolve a catalog shortage.

  • Contrast each term with its results.
  • Check for ambiguities and marks.
  • Correct or remove unhelpful equivalences.
Put it into practice

A tour that you can check.

  1. Find a recurring expression.
  2. Record its equivalence in Synonyms.
  3. Repeat the query and verify the products.

Questions about synonyms

Does a synonym change the product pages?

No. Matches search expressions; does not rename store products.

Should I register all possible variants?

Prioritize useful and verifiable equivalences. Excessive groups can mix intentions that should remain separate.

Does it solve any query without results?

No. First check that the product exists, is indexed and meets the query conditions.
